A couple from Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram told the police here on Sunday that a mentally unstable woman brought here from Mumbai on Saturday was its daughter.

Subair and Salma said their daughter's name was Sunitha and not Aleena as she had told the police. They said she had gone missing on February 2 while under treatment in a hospital at Varkala.

They produced an identity proof to substantiate their claim. The couple had reported her missing and had filed a habeas corpus writ petition at the Kerala High Court, the hearing of which was scheduled for Wednesday.

The woman was found wandering at the Kurla railway station in Mumbai. Railway police personnel from Kannur had brought her here from Mumbai.

On the way, she went missing at Canacona in Goa. The police later found her wandering in a street.

She was then brought here by road and has been admitted to the Government Mental Hospital at Kuthiravattom.
