Thiruvananthapuram: The City Corporation will hold adalats to clear the 21,000 files pending in various sections of the civic body.

A meeting convened by Mayor C. Jayan Babu here on Thursday decided to conduct the adalats at the main office and zonal offices of the Corporation from July 30 to August 23. The public will be informed about the details of the adalat.

The pending files include complaints and applications received up to July 6. The Mayor said the Corporation currently received more than 500 complaints or applications every day. There are very few files that have been pending for a long time, he added.

Highlighting the problems faced by local self-government institutions, the Mayor said the Corporation has to maintain applications for three years after building permits are issued. “The files relating to disbursement of employees’ pension are not disposed of. They are kept live. Similarly, files of public works are also kept live for a long time even after the works are completed.” The Mayor said hundreds of applications for inclusion in the below poverty line (BPL) list were received at the Corporation office.

These files would be closed only after the BPL survey is completed, he said.
