Kozhikode: The Kozhikode District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum on Friday asked a textiles merchant to pay a fine of Rs.100 and refund the price of a readymade shirt to a customer.

The complainant, V. Samalesh, had purchased two readymade cotton shirts priced Rs.465 and Rs.365 from a shop at Arayidathupalam on June 30. But after the first wash the shirt costing Rs.365 lost its colour.

He approached the shop the next day for replacement of the shirt.

But the shop owner not only refused to give a new shirt but also used abusive language against him. He was also told that the shirt did not have a guarantee on colour. Samalesh approached the Forum.

The court rejected the contention of the shop owner that the shirt was sold stating that it did not have a guarantee on colour.

He did not produce any evidence to support his argument.
