In a move that may evoke curiosity, Priyadarshini Publications, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee’s publishing house, has brought out a book authored by former BJP State president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai.

KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala justified the move on Monday, while speaking at a cultural meet as part of a book fair organised by Priyadarshini Publications, stating that the organisation did not hold sectarian political views when it came to promoting writers belong to other political parties.

“Besides being a political leader and a prominent lawyer of the Kozhikode bar, Mr. Sreedharan Pillai is a good personal friend even though we happen to be on diametrically opposite political poles,” he said.

The book, Onchiyam Oru Marana Warrant , was published by Priyadarshini Publications as part of this policy and it would soon bring out the works of Marxist writer Ezhacheri Ramachandran, Mr. Chennithala said.

He recalled the criticism of Sukumar Azhikode about the longevity of Priyadarshini Publications, which set a record by bringing out one of his works as its 50th book.

Mr. Chennithala said the publication unit would bring out a translation of Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram’s book, A view from outside , followed by President Pranab Mukherjee’s Congress History .

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien focussed on the impact books would have on shaping the character of individuals.

Poet Sugathakumari, who delivered the keynote address, maintained that it would be hard for those who did not love language to love nature.
