State-wide protest against price rise, ‘misrule'

KANNUR: Congress activists staged a picketing in front of the Collectorate here on Wednesday as part of the party's State-wide protest against ‘price rise and the misrule of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government.'

The police erected barricades in front of the Collectorate gate to stop the protesting Congress activists from entering the Collectorate. The police personnel deployed there in large numbers also stopped the activists when the latter tried to push through the barricades. Party leaders intervened to pacify the irate party activists.

The picketing was inaugurated by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Kodoth Govindan Nair. He said the LDF rule over the past four years was an utter failure. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan was going one way, while his colleagues in the Cabinet were going in the opposite direction, he said

K. Sudhakaran, MP, who addressed the protestors, asked if the LDF government had any achievement it could boast of. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) was least interested in governance as it was keen on accumulating wealth by any means, he said.

No IPS and IAS officers with self-respect were willing to serve in the State, he said.

District Congress Committee president P. Ramakrishnan presided over the inauguration of the picketing. Party leaders K.C. Kadambooran, K.P. Nooruddin, A.D. Musthafa, Sunny Joseph, A.P. Adbullakutty and Suma Balakrishnan were among those present.
