‘Achutha Menon initiated Kerala model’
The Kerala model of development should be sustained through a political consensus, P. C. Chacko, MP, has said.
He was addressing a seminar on ‘Achutha Menon and Kerala model of development’ held here on Friday as part of Achutha Menon’s birth centenary celebrations.
“The Kerala model of development was initiated by Achutha Menon. It has supporters as well as critics. The differences notwithstanding, there should be an unbroken continuity in development. The development model has improved the living standards of the people. The model can be sustained only through concerted efforts. It is possible only if a wrong notion is cleared: that the Communists and the Congress ought to fight each other for everything,” Mr. Chacko said.
He stated that very few people had practiced Communist ideals as Menon did. Sebastian Paul, former MP, said that the Kerala model of development was not accidental.
“By formulating it meticulously, Achutha Menon proved that politics has immense possibilities. Many models of development, including Narendra Modi’s model, are being discussed now. Modi’s model has many flaws. The Kerala model draws praise because it is people-centric,” he said. C.P. John, former member of the Kerala State Planning Board and Sathyan Mokkeri, former MLA, also spoke.
