The Comtrust Weaving Factory workers’ protest committee has called for a 12-hour general strike and hartal in Kozhikode district on May 8, in protest against the delay in getting the President’s assent on the bill for government takeover of the factory.

In a press release here today, the committee said the bill which was passed by the Legislative Assembly in July 2012, had been waiting for the President’s assent for the past 10 months. As per the bill, effective from February 2009, the Comtrust employees are eligible for the same amount of compensation as that of the employees of Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation. But the employees are yet to get any of these benefits.
