The Kerala High Court on Friday directed the Union government to pay a compensation of Rs.5 lakh from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to a widow of a person who was killed in a bomb blast in Saudi Arabia in 1985.

Justice B.P. Roy also directed the State government to pay Rs.1 lakh to the widow from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund as agreed by the State government earlier. The court ordered that the amount be paid in a month. The directive was issued on a petition filed by Margaret D’c ruz, widow of Wilfred D’cruz of Fort Kochi. The man was killed while returning from work at Riyadh in May 1985.

The Union government submitted that it would pay Rs.5 lakh from the Prime Minster’s fund. The State government had earlier told the court that the petitioner would be paid Rs.1 lakh from the Chief Minister’s fund.
