PALAKKAD: District Collector K.V. Mohan Kumar has directed the police to take action against those found littering public places and rivers by dumping waste, under IPC 188, 431 and 432.
The Collector told a meeting of officials in the presence of K.K. Divakaran, MLA, here on Monday that the those who flout the rules could get imprisonment up to five years. The meeting has also decided to form a special squad to identify those who dump waste in rivers and public places at night.
He said that the public can give information about those found dumping waste in rivers and public places to the police. In Palakkad town, they can contact Control Room (Phone No.100), Circle Inspector of Town South police station 2525340, Sub-Inspector of Police – 2537368 and Town North Police Station – 2502375.
The meeting has directed the Secretaries of the local bodies to complete the cleaning works and find ways to dispose of the waste.
The Public Works Department has been directed to complete the repairing and maintenance of roads before the onset of monsoon.
The District Collector said control rooms will be opened in taluk offices to deal with monsoon-related havoc. They would work round the clock.
