Education Minister M.A. Baby is unlikely to have received such a reception before.

His cabinet colleague Jose Thettayil was a key member of the percussion team which welcomed him to the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit here on Thursday morning.

The Transport Minister was the ‘chenda' player.

Mr. Baby watched his colleague's performance for a while before requesting him to hand over the ‘chenda.'

It was then the turn of the Education Minister to join the group, as Mr. Thettayil kept the beat.

Mr. Thettayil, who had reached the campus 15 minutes before Mr. Baby for another function, had expressed his wish to play the chenda to one of the members of the university's percussion team. For the next 10 minutes, Mr. Thettayil unleashed his creative skills before an audience that mainly comprised the university officials and students. Many were seen capturing the moment with their mobile cameras.
