The Cochin Shipyard on Tuesday delivered the 100th ship built at the facility.

Abhiraj, as the fast patrol vessel is named, is the fourth in a series of 20 such vessels being built by the yard for the Coast Guard.

Documents pertaining to delivery of the vessel were signed between the yard’s director (finance) Ravi Kumar Roddam and Coast Guard Commandant Ashok Kumar, Abhiraj’s commanding officer-designate.

On commissioning, the vessel will operate under the Coast Guard station, Tuticorin.

The yard signed a contract with the Coast Guard for construction of 20 FPVs in October 2010 and has so far delivered three in the series. Cochin Shipyard delivered 40 ships between 1975 and 2000; 14 ships between 2001 and 2005; and 29 ships between 2006 and 2010.
