Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has promised the All Kerala Gold and Silver Merchants Association that the government would try to consider its suggestions with respect to compounding system of collecting tax on gold sold by their members. He gave this assurance when the association’s office-bearers met him at his chamber with their grievance that the 5 per cent tax fixed for gold in Kerala was diverting gold sales to the neighbouring States, where the tax rate was low. – Special Correspondent
