: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy said here on Saturday that Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac had the moral responsibility to clarify to the people how the government had utilised Rs.1,441-crore that the Union government had sanctioned to the State for tsunami rehabilitation.
Speaking at various election meetings in the district, Mr. Chandy said the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had utilised only 25 per cent of the funds sanctioned for tsunami rehabilitation works in the coastal belt. Even then, it had not succeeded in ensuring basic infrastructure. Dr. Isaac, being the Finance Minister of the LDF, had the moral responsibility to answer this, he said.
Stating that the State, which was the second best investment-friendly State in the country in 2005 when the United Democratic Front (UDF) was in power, Mr. Chandy said the State had now slipped to the 17th position while West Bengal occupied the 18th position, which was proof of the misrule of the LDF.
He said Mr. Achuthanandan appeared more concerned about seeing UDF leaders in jail rather than attending to the problems of the public.
The LDF was yet to clarify on how much rice APL card-holders would get under the Rs. 2-a-kg rice scheme, he said.
