KOLLAM: No worthwhile projects announced by the Kollam City Corporation materialised in the past four years, the Nikthi Dayaka Poura Samithi has said.

Corruption was rampant in the civic body, Samithi president Karumalil Sukumaran and secretary K.G. Gopinathan said at a press conference here on Wednesday.

The samithi had obtained a Local Fund Audit Report by invoking the Right to Information Act. Except for slapping people with tax hikes, nothing worthwhile had taken place, the samithi office-bearers said.

The move to hike professional tax by 10-15 times is the latest in a series of moves to harass people. The Opposition had failed in safeguarding the interests of the people, they said.

The commissioned projects including the biogas project at the slaughter house and the electric crematorium exposed the corruption behind it.

The samithi called for a high-level probe into the administration of the Kollam Corporation.
