Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pangode, has been declared winners of the 25th Youth Parliament, a national-level contest, and has bagged the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Rolling Parliamentary Shield, a press release issued here on Friday said.

The 55-member team outperformed all the other zonal teams and emerged winners for the second consecutive year. The selection of the themes, presentation made by each member, the involvement of each member as part of the team, and the decorum in the house were the main aspects considered for judgment, the release said.

In the question hour, topics such as implementation of the Right To Education Act, Indo-China relationship, and safety of Railways were discussed. During the Zero Hour, members raised national issues such as safety of women and the issue of poaching of rhinos. A calling-attention motion addressed to the ‘Home Minister’ highlighted the need to tackle the issue of insurgency with a humanitarian approach.

The most important part of the parliament was the introduction of Bills and the parliament debated on the various features of “Financial Integrity Bill.” “Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Bill,” which was passed in the parliament, reflected the urgency of protecting the rights of children.

The team will give a repeat performance and receive the prize at a special function to be held in New Delhi this month.
