Anticipating a harsh summer, the civic administrators are mobilising its men and resources to meet the sweltering months.
From stocking preventive medicines to check the outbreak of diseases like chickenpox and keeping the water tankers ready for supplying drinking water in areas where there is water shortage, the Kochi Corporation is taking all possible measures to tackle the situation, said T.K. Ashraf, chairman of the Health Standing Committee of the civic body.
Drinking water shortage is one major issue that the civic body will have to deal with during the summer months. The corporation has already engaged drinking water suppliers to provide water in areas where there is the shortage. The city residents can approach the civic authorities through their division councillors. The civic body is also coordinating with the revenue authorities for supply of drinking water, he said.
With the usage of drinking water going up during the summer months and short supply, people may tend to use hand pumps and electric motors for drawing water from supply lines. This will lead to the contamination of drinking water as polluted water may enter the system through leaks in the pipes, Mr. Asharaf cautioned.
All the homoeopathic dispensaries have stocked preventive medicines for checking the outbreak of diseases.
The corporation has also started clearing slurry and blocks from the drains as part of the pre-monsoon preparedness, he said.
