ALAPPUZHA: An inquiry into the incident in which Defence Minister A.K. Antony’s convoy was “misled” by the police escort here on Sunday has held Kayamkulam Circle Inspector (CI) Harikrishnan and Ambalapuzha CI C.K. Uttaman responsible for the lapse.

The report, submitted to Alappuzha Superintendent of Police Nagaraju by Special Branch Deputy SP T. Suresh Kumar, said both the Circle Inspectors had failed to coordinate with one another.

According to the report, Mr. Harikrishnan, who was the escort for Mr. Antony’s convoy from Kayamkulam, had not verified the details of the venue with Mr. Uttaman. This resulted in the convoy travelling for over 4 km in the wrong direction. Mr. Uttaman had also failed in ensuring that policemen were posted at the Kacheri Junction at Ambalapuzha from where the convoy should have taken a right turn.
