PATHANAMTHITTA: A three-day meet of the supreme parliament of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, Mar Thoma Sabha Mandalam, came to a close at THE Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma Hall in Thiruvalla on Saturday afternoon.

Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma, Metropolitan of the Church, presided over the valedictory function.

The Mar Thoma Sabha Mandalam has also passed a Rs.54-crore annual budget for the Church. The budget presented by lay trustee K. Verghese has set apart Rs.1 crore for schemes to provide house for all homeless Church members.

A total of Rs.25 lakh have been set apart for cancer care and Rs.5 lakh for extending marriage assistance to girls from economically backward families. As much as Rs.20 lakh has been earmarked for setting up Balavedis outside Kerala as part of an evangelisation programme.

Award presented

The Mar Thoma Metropolitan presented the Manavaseva Award instituted by the Church to Fr. A.K. George and the Maliyekkal M.C. George Kaseessa Prize to Fr. M.C. Thomas. The meeting also expressed concern over the delay in resolving agitation for land by the landless.
