Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday called upon the electorate of Kerala to cast their votes in favour of the UDF, which had implemented several development projects and social welfare schemes.

Making a plea for continuity, Mr. Chennithala said in a statement here that only the UDF could ensure peace and security and development of the State. He said the UDF had a good track record in education, infrastructure development, industrial and agriculture development, which had helped the State to achieve a record growth rate that surpassed the national average.

Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) president K. Muraleedharan accused the LDF of encouraging religious fundamentalists and communal forces. In a statement, he said that it was unfortunate that the LDF, which had claimed that its alliance with the DIC(K) would mar its image, should now establish open ties with such forces. He said the CPI (M)'s election campaign was being headed by those who were caught in an ideological warp and if elected to office would take the State backwards by decades.
