THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala said that he was not in the race for the Rajya Sabha seat that the UDF could hope to win on the basis of its strength in the Assembly.

Mr. Chennithala said his assignment was to revive the party's fortunes in Kerala and he now wanted to concentrate on that task.

The Congress and the UDF had not yet started the process of discussion for the Rajya Sabha seat.

Asked whether the Congress would honour its commitment given to the Kerala Congress (M) on giving it a ticket, Mr. Chennithala said the issue would be sorted out through discussions.

He had opted out beforehand since the decision not to contest rested with him, he added.
