A. Gopakumar, Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) of Thiruvalla, has said that a decision on the draining out of the waterlogged deep cavities at the granite quarries on the Chembanmudy hill would be taken by the District Collector.

The RDO’s decision was in the wake of the stern stand taken by local people that draining out the cavities would not serve the purpose as the landslide threat would be more alarming during the monsoon. The villagers, under the banner of the people’s action council and the Chembanmudy Protection Council, had even detained the RDO for about an hour when he reached the quarry site to supervise the draining out of the waterlogged cavities here on Wednesday. Mr. Gopakumar said it was practically difficult to completely drain out all the cavities.
