More check-dams will be constructed in the forests of Nilambur to prevent wild animals from drifting into human inhabited areas.

The Forest Department will spend Rs. 36 lakh to construct check-dams in the forest, said Divisional Forest Officer (South) C.V. Rajan.

Mr. Rajan said that the project would also help water conservation in forest areas. He said check-dams would be constructed at Moideen Parambu and Moochala in Karulai range and at Mothirakkunnu Chola and Manalpotty Chola in Kalikavu range.

A few check-dams were constructed in Karulai range last year.
