Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has no moral right to continue in power, CPI(M) Central Committee member K. K. Shailaja has said.

She was addressing the ‘Rapakal Samaram’ (day-and-night agitation) of the Left Democratic Front at the Thekke Gopura Nada at Thekkinkad Maidan here on Wednesday demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister.

“Two benches of the High Court, while onsidering separate pleas related to the solar scam, had expressed dissatisfaction at the investigation of the cases. The court wondered whether the government was trying for a cover-up. The court’s observations put the Chief Minister in the dock. He should put in his papers and face the investigation,” she said. She alleged that the Chief Minister’s office had worked in favour of Team Solar. “There were attempts to drain the exchequer and secure subsidy for Team Solar. Members of the Chief Minister’s staff worked in cahoots with the accused in the scam Biju Radhakrishnan and Saritha Nair. By uttering that he was not in the know of things, the Chief Minister cannot clear charges of his involvement. Why did he have a closed-door meeting with Biju Radhakrishnan, an accused in a murder case? Many questions remain to be answered. Without further delay, the government should order a judicial investigation into the Chief Minister’s alleged role in the scam,” she added.

She stated that the Director General of Prosecutions was expected to be dispassionate in his work.

“T. Asif Ali, however, has proved that he is a Congress loyalist,” she said.
