The Centre’s delay in approving a comprehensive master plan on developing backwaters and constructing six boat terminals has been blamed for the delay in increasing their number in Alappuzha.

Director of Kerala Tourism Rani George said the master plan was prepared two years ago, which mentioned the six places spread over a wide area where the terminals were proposed. “But the Centre is yet to give its nod.”

On the question of too many vessels operating without registration and licence, Mr George said port authority has to enforce the norms in different districts.
