Communist Party of India (Marxist) Central committee member T.M. Thomas Isaac has said that the Union and State governments should share the blame for disquiet among Indian workers in Saudi Arabia.

Inaugurating a sit-in organised by the CPI(M) district committee here on Wednesday, Dr. Isaac said it was unfortunate that the Union and State governments had not studied the Nitaqat law properly.

The Union government had the responsibility to study every change in the labour laws of a country in which lakhs of Indians worked. Countries such as Philippines were quite alert when it came to such issues, he added.

The CPI(M) leader said the negligence of the Union and State governments should be met with a strong agitation so that those who were forced to return home due to the Nitaqat could at least hope for some meaningful steps for their rehabilitation. As things stood, no effort had been made by both the governments for their rehabilitation, he pointed out.

‘No efforts to rehabilitate those returning to the State.’
