Kozhikode: The Moon Landing Week Celebration was inaugurated by George Koshy, project director, PSLV, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, at the Regional Science Centre (RSC) and Planetarium here on Tuesday. A liquid nitrogen show, which was part of a newly designed demonstration programme titled ‘A Journey to Absolute Zero,’ was also held on the occasion, which marks the anniversary of man’s landing on the moon for the first time in 1969. Mr. George Koshy delivered a multimedia-aided lecture for science teachers at the RSC Auditorium after the show.
Director of Indian Institute of Spices Research, Calicut, V.A. Parthasarathy presided over the inaugural function.
District Panchayat Education Standing Committee Chairman M. Radhakrishnan and RSC project coordinator V.S. Ramachandran spoke on the occasion.
A seminar on ‘Our Universe,’ based on Class X physics textbook was held in the afternoon session.
Various programmes including a painting contest, moon mapping and an open house quiz on space and related subjects will be held at the RSC in the following days as part of the celebrations.
