Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan is the role model for members of the Maths Club at St. Peter’s Upper Primary School, Vlathankara.
In connection with the 125th birth anniversary of Ramanujan, the club released a calendar to commemorate his contributions.
The calendar, ‘Ganitha Bodhitam’, was released at a function at the school recently to celebrate the National Mathematics Year. It lists snippets of Ramanujan’s personal life along with his contributions to mathematics.
The importance of 1729 - known as the Ramanujan number (it is the smallest number expressible as the sum of two cubes in two different ways) is explained through the calendar.
Alex Bosco, convener of the club, said the aim was to find creative ways to train students to love maths.
