`KSEB given Rs.24 crore by Canadian agency'
PALAKKAD: General secretary of Kerala Electricity Employees Confederation (INTUC) M.S. Rawthar has urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to include the utilisation of Rs.24 crore grant given by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) in its investigation into the SNC Lavalin case.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the INTUC leader said the Canadian agency had given nearly Rs.24 crore to KSEB as grant for the implementation of the Energy Infrastructure Services Project (EASP).
This grant was given on an agreement signed between the agency and the board on February 2, 1997. This grant was handled by the SNC Lavalin company for the implementation of Energy Infrastructure Services Project, he said.
He said the KSEB had formed four task forces with representatives from the Left trade unions, officers union and the representative of the SNC Lavalin company. They had their month-long meetings at star hotels in Thiruvanathapuram and had travelled widely by air. But despite the luxury, such a huge amount could not be spent. Thus the CBI should also inquire into the utilisation of this grant, the INTUC leader said.
