To mark Golden Jubilee of State

KOLLAM: As part of the year-long celebrations organised by Swaralaya in connection with the 50th anniversary of the formation of the State, a Carnatic music programme will be held at the Swaralaya Open Air Auditorium at Kadappakada here on Sunday.

Those performing the programme are Padmabhushan Thrissur V. Ramachandran and Padmabhushan Umayalpuram Sivaraman.

At a press conference here on Friday, president of the Kadappakada Sports Club and Reading Room Thengamam Balakrishnan and secretary R.S. Babu said that during February and March, a secular film festival would be held. The presentation of the V. Gangadharan Memorial Trust Award will be presented on the occasion.

Seminar

The programme will also comprise a seminar on the subject ''A land without communal clashes.''

Seminars will also be held to boost the development of Kollam city and the district. Other programmes include presentation of the Pattathuvila Karunakaran Memorial Award, Swaralaya music festival and a book mela.

In September, a folk songs and tradition arts festival will be held. Renowned folk artistes will be honoured.
