He is a devotee of nature. Hence, images of trees, birds and animals dominate the works of artist Asanthan. The artist has put up 37 works, including 11 drawings and 26 paintings, at an exhibition titled ‘Akam' at the art gallery of the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, here.
Subtle portrayal of human-nature bonding stood out in the paintings in acrylic. They are testimony to his inner world, which get visualised on the canvas spontaneously.
“It is my way of saying that I care for nature. My paintings are about how I connect with them and how I capture them to the best of my ability,” says the artist.
Many of his paintings draw inspiration from folk arts and festivals. Folk arts and motifs such as ‘Mudiyattam', ‘Kathirukala' and ‘Thudippattu' find expressions in his works. Hailing from Edappally near Ernakulam, Asanthan has conducted group and solo exhibitions across the state. The show will conclude on October 21.
