Documentary on women

KANNUR: Students and teachers of the Krishna Menon Memorial Government Women's College here has made a documentary film on women who played major role in the history of Kannur.

`Kannurile Penvazhikal,' a collective initiative of students and teachers, was formally released at a function on the college campus here on Wednesday. The documentary was the outcome of inspiration students received from a debate on the college campus on `Women and society.'

The documentary features women who played significant roles in the local history making here, including Arakkal Beevi, head of the royal Arakkal family, Kaumudi Teacher, who had renounced her ornaments before Mahatma Gandhi for the freedom struggle when she was a child, and the woman who play Devakkoothu ritual dance, among others.

The script, narration, anchoring, interviews and research for the documentary film were done by students themselves. It was directed by college teacher A.T. Mohanraj.
