The government is planning to set up exclusive camps for migrant labourers in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kozhikode, Labour Minister Shibu Baby John has said.
Mr. Shibu said in reply to questions in the Assembly on Thursday that the camps would provide all facilities to workers and help to collect their details. The department had issued labour cards to 18,000 migrant workers. It had been targeted to issue one-lakh cards within a year.
In the absence of statistics about migrant workers, the government was planning to engage students of Loyola and Rajagiri Colleges for conducting a survey. The number of job-seekers in the State from 2005 to 2010 had been estimated at 43,10,345, he said.
Minister for Industries and Information Technology P.K. Kunhalikutty said that 148 government websites were hacked till March 2009.
Minister for Agriculture and Printing K.P. Mohanan said that the total outlay for Idukki package was Rs.765 crore. The State government had submitted projects worth Rs.391 crore of which projects for Rs.234 crore had been approved. A committee had been formed for expediting the execution of the project. A proposal for setting up a price stability fund for Rs.250 crore was pending with the Centre.
The high-tech dairy farm at Kolahalamedu in Idukki would be inaugurated in January. The government would give pension to government press workers. Steps had been taken to avert the delay in issuing gazette notifications.
Minister for Cooperation C.N. Balakrishnan said that cooperative banks gave education loans worth Rs.1762.73 crore to 1,451 students in 2010-11. As many as 1,693 cooperative societies were running in loss. Since the United Democratic Front (UDF) government assumed office, the vigilance wing of the department had ordered probe into 10 cases of financial irregularities.
Inquiry into two cases had been completed. The Consumer Marketing Federation was planning to set up Sushrusha Clinical Laboratories at all district headquarters and taluks for conducting tests at affordable rates.
