Motorists given leaflets, pamphlets on road safety and traffic laws.

KOCHI: Motor Vehicle Department carried out road safety awareness campaign along the roads in the district on Wednesday. The campaign was part of the road safety awareness week being observed across the State. Squads of Motor Vehicle Department were positioned on the roads for more than two hours starting from 9 a.m.

Motorists were given leaflets and pamphlets on road safety and traffic laws, and were advised on the need to observe them. The mobile enforcement squad of the department along with members of the traffic clubs of Government Polytechnic College, Kalamassery, and Rajagiri Public School carried out the campaign in Kalamassery.

A rally and awareness campaign would be carried out at Kaloor junction with the cooperation of students of the Model Technical Higher Secondary School at 9.30 a.m. on Thursday. Another campaign would be carried out at the busy Vytilla Junction at 4 p.m. Thirty NCC and NSS volunteers from Maharaja’s College would participate. Those violating the traffic rules would be advised and supplied with leaflets and pamphlets during the two-hour long campaign.

“We are focusing more on spreading awareness during this week and penal provisions would be invoked only when it’s absolutely unavoidable,” said M.O. Sajan, Motor Vehicle Inspector, coordinating the campaign in the district.
