ALAPPUZHA: The campaign for the Assembly elections scheduled to be held on April 22 in the district ended at 5 p.m. on Thursday on a relatively clam note. No untoward incidents were reported.
The candidates began the day by addressing small public meetings and ended the day with vehicle rallies. In Alappuzha town, the district headquarters, the UDF candidate and sitting MLA K.C. Venugopal and LDF candidate T.J. Anjelose called on voters at their homes in the morning.
Vehicles carrying the candidates rushed through the town in the evening.
In Ambalappuzha, LDF candidate G. Sudhakaran and UDF candidate D. Sugathan tried to meet the maximum number of voters. In Kuttanad, sitting MLA Dr. K.C. Joseph addressed meetings in the morning.
The DIC(K) candidate Thomas Chandy addressed a large number of wayside meetings. A group of UDF workers lead by campaign convener of Mr. Chandy, K. Gopakumar visited the houses of voters at near the meeting venues before each meeting. Party workers carrying the voters' list were seen visiting homes with final minute requests. The final day of campaign saw both fronts fighting for every single vote.
