It is part of an initiative to empower children from rural areas by making them learn English.

The students of Sri Narayana Vilasam Senior Basic UP School at Kurichiyil here took time off their vacation to attend a five-day camp organised by the English Language Teachers’ Interaction Forum (ELTIF).

“The camp held at the school from April 16 was organised for the purpose of enriching the students’ proficiency in the English language,” says ELTIF joint secretary K. Chandran.

It is part of ELTIF’s initiative to empower rural students, he adds.

The camp was organised jointly by ‘Satheerthyam,’ the alumni association of the school, and ELTIF. No fee was charged, the organisers say.

Rajiv Gandhi Higher Secondary School Principal M. Hareendran inaugurated the camp.

Satheerthyam secretary N.V. Ajayakumar and school Headmistress U. Thankam were among those present at the inaugural function.
