PALAKKAD: Electricity Minister A.K. Balan has said that the traditional Ayurveda system of medicine should be preserved and developed as it is has international recognition and popularity.
Inaugurating the 31st State conference of the Kerala State Government Ayurveda Medical Officers' Association here on Saturday, Mr. Balan said though Ayurveda was getting international recognition it was being reduced as a tool for tourism promotion in Kerala.
He said that along with modern medicine, Ayurveda should also be developed so that serious diseases could be cured with it.
Some of those who contributed to the development of Ayurveda were felicitated at the function by M.B. Rajesh, MP.
Association State president K. Madhavan presided. K.K. Divakaran and C.P. Mohammed (MLAs); district panchayat president Subida Isahaq; municipal chairperson V. Devayani, among others, spoke.
A seminar on ‘Global warming and health protection measures' was also organised.
The valedictory of the conference will be inaugurated by Minister for Fisheries S. Sarma on Sunday.
