To prevent breeding of mosquitoes

District panchayat programme to clean public places

Squads to be constituted to take up cleanliness drive

Kozhikode: The district authorities have sounded a clarion call to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes in households in the wake of the summer showers in the past one week.

At a meeting held at the District Collectorate here on Monday the authorities decided to launch a cleanliness drive programme this week.

The Kozhikode district panchayat has already initiated a programme on Saturday and Sunday to tidy public places. The programme will help to a large extent eradicate mosquitoes. The meeting chaired by the district panchayat president K.P.Kunhahamedkutty also urged all gramapanchayats to convene meetings before April 5 to step up efforts for the cleanliness drive. The local bodies have also been told to set in motion programmes in connection with the World Health Day on April 7.

Squads would be constituted to take up cleanliness mission at ward level. At least 50 houses will be formed under a squad. The local bodies and health department will jointly carry out programmes in this regard.

The National Rural Health Mission will also launch its activities at Block Panchayats. A convention will also be held to coordinate activities. Block committees will monitor the activities at the gramapanchayat level.

Conventions will be held at block panchayats of Koduvally, Thooneri, Perambra on March 25; Kunnamel, March 29 and Kozhikode, Kunnamangalam, Balussery, Meladi, Pandalayani, Thodanoor, Vadakara, Chelanoor, April 2.

Poverty Alleviation Project Director P. Vijaykumar, Social Mobilisation Administrative Officer D. Johnson, Deputy District Medical Officer Sebastian, presidents and secretaries of gramapanchayats and block panchayats participated in the meeting.
