KALPETTA: A joint motor workers' union of private bus workers in Wayanad district has given a call for an indefinite bus strike in the district from Monday demanding implementation of the government order on fair wages.

Union office-bearers told presspersons here on Wednesday that though the union had demanded implementation of fair wages, the bus owners were continuing their negative stance.

Meeting fails

‘‘We are forced to call an indefinite strike as the conciliation meeting called by the District Labour officer on Monday failed owing to the negative stance of the bus owners,'' they said.

Owners' promise

They said leaders of the Private Bus Owners' Association had assured them that they would implement the fare wages in the district from October 2009, but they were yet to implement it.

Though bus fares were hiked two times, the assured fair wages were not implemented as yet, they alleged.

A meeting of the union to be held at T.S. Memorial Auditorium here on Friday would decide on the mode of operation of the strike, they said.
