People blocked vehicular traffic for hours on National Highway 212 at Muthanga for the fourth consecutive day on Monday as suspected wild-animal attacks on cattle continued in Wayanad.

In the 10th such incident in two weeks, a male buffalo was killed in a suspected attack by a tiger at Alathoor inside the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary.

Travellers from Karnataka, among them Sabarimala pilgrims, were stranded for hours following the protest. The road block was withdrawn after sanctuary officials promised compensation recommended by a veterinary surgeon after autopsy.

The Left Democratic Front district committee staged an hour’s road block in six places in the district demanding security for the life and property of people.
