Thiruvananthapuram: The first budget of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan has failed to give a direction to the economy, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president P.K. Krishnadas has said.

In a statement here on Wednesday, Mr. Krishnadas said the crash in the share market was proof of the investors' disinterest in the economy. There were some deliberate attempts to appease the minorities with an eye on the elections.

He warned that this would have far-reaching consequences. Even though the Economic Survey identified inflation and price rise as the major problems, the budget contained nothing to tackle them.
