General manager says 1000 connections given in the past one year

PATHANAMTHITTA: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will extend its broadband service to all exchanges in the Pathanamthitta Secondary Switching Area in the current financial year.

Addressing the Telecom Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting in Thiruvalla on Saturday, BSNL general manager C. Sasidharan has said that the BSNL has given a total of 1000 Broad Band connections in the SSA during the past one year. He said that another 400 broadband connections will be given in the SSA in the current financial year.

Mr. Sasidharan said that optical cable laying work will begin soon to link the forest areas of Kokkathode with the nearest town of Konni. He said that the BSNL will also construct a Base Trans Station (BTS) in Kokkathode this year.

According to him, the BSNL has commissioned a total of 53 BTS in different parts of the SSA in 2005-'06. He said another 21 mobile towers (BTS) would be commissioned within the next few months. He said the BSNL will clear all pending phone applications this year itself.
