A 42-year-old housewife, who was allegedly stripped and brutalised by a gang of nine persons at Kunnathur, has said that even after 17 days of the incident the police are going slow on the investigation.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, she said she had enough reasons to believe that there was strong political pressure on the police in favour of the culprits.

Threatened

She alleged that she was under constant threat to withdraw the case.

The threats included killing her and her two young sons.

The family that lived in Pune settled at Kunnathur some time back when the woman’s husband met with an accident in which one of his eyes suffered visual impairment. At the time of the incident, her husband was not at home.

The incident had taken place in the evening of October 26. According to the complaint lodged by her with the police, the gang regularly came to a vacant property opposite her house for consuming liquor and afterwards engaged in revelry. Unable to bear the nuisance, she questioned the gang and asked them to find some other place for such activities.

Enraged by her boldness, the gang pounced on her, tore off her clothes and dragged her for some distance, she alleged in the complaint.

Her two young sons, who came to her rescue, were also beaten up. She was admitted to the local taluk hospital.

The police said leader of the gang Shyam Kumar alias Vavachan, 30, was arrested the same night. But the others remained at large.
