Seminar to mark EMS birth anniversaryMALAPPURAM: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) will celebrate the birth anniversary of E.M.S. Namboodiripad by organising a two-day national seminar. The seminar, titled "The World of E.M.S.," will begin at Pulamanthol, near Perinthalmanna, on Monday morning.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the event at 9.30 a.m. Sukumar Azhikode, writer and critic, will deliver an E.M.S. memorial speech. The seminar will discuss the changing trends in Kerala's socio-politics. CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate a session on "New Kerala" on Monday afternoon. Minister for Local Administration Paloli Mohammed Kutty will preside over the function.

Man electrocutedKOLLAM: A 37-year-old man was electrocuted on Sunday morning at Pooyapally. He was identified as Babu Koshy. It was while cutting a tree that the accident happened. Pyrotechnician to leave hospitalThrissur: Gireesh, 22, a pyrotechnician who suffered severe burns in a blast that occurred on May 5 at a site at Padukkad, near here, where firecrackers were being made for the Thrissur Pooram celebrations, will be discharged from Jubilee Mission Medical College on Monday, according to a press release.
