PSC cancels objective type examinationTHIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Public Service Commission (PSC) has cancelled the objective type examination held on February 4 for the selection of non-vocational teacher (junior) in chemistry in the Vocational Higher Secondary Education Department. A fresh examination will be conducted soon. A sub-committee has been asked to take a detailed look into the complaints about the other examinations. Special Correspondent

Plea for emergency relief to StateTHIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has asked the Centre to send a high-level team from the ministries concerned to assess the havoc caused by the monsoon in Kerala and provide emergency relief to the State.

In fax messages sent to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Minister of State S. Raghupathy on Saturday, the Chief Minister said the monsoon, which was active in Kerala for the last one week, had caused extensive loss. It took the lives of several persons and caused injuries to several others. It had also led to large-scale crop loss. Many houses too had been destroyed. The loss would run into crores of rupees. He added that a memorandum containing details of the loss would be submitted to the Centre soon. Special Correspondent

Firoz, Deputy Director, State Public Relations Department, will receive the `PR Practitioner of the Year Awards' of the Thiruvananthapuram chapter of the Public Relations Society of India at a function to be held at Hotel Muthoot Plaza here on June 15.

In a press release, the society said eminent diplomat and former Foreign Secretary, K.P.S. Menon, would give away the awards.
