Solidarity film festival

KOLLAM: `Nerkazhchakal,' a film festival organised by the Solidarity Youth Movement will be held at the Public Library Hall here from February 13 to 15. The films to be screened are Dreams, Babsaheb Ambedkar, No Man's Land and Boycott. In addition to that, the documentaries Rachel, Oru American Manasakshi, Deivathinte Veedu, Vamshahathyayude Irakal and Avivekapaatha will also be screened. New office-bearers

KOLLAM: E. Abdul Razak, Principal, TKM College of Arts and Science, has been elected president of the Former Students' Association of the college. The other office-bearers are Koottikada Ashraf, chairman; A. Abdul Aziz, vice-chairman; M. Abdul Munaf, general secretary; T.Y. Naushad and George Mundakkal, secretaries and E. N.S. endowment

KOLLAM: The CPI(M) district committee has invited applications for the N.S. Memorial Endowment. Those who passed the 2006 SSLC examination with distinction are eligible to apply. Two outstanding students, a boy and a girl, hailing from economically backward families will be selected for the endowment. It will be presented to the winners at the N.S. World peace summit begins today

THRISSUR: Youth from 40 countries will take part in the World Peace Summit Thrissur 2007 to be held here from February 7 to 9. Discussions and presentation of art forms will be held as part of the summit. Habib Tanvir will stage his play `Charandas Chor' on February 7. This will be followed by the presentation of a dance-drama by Mallika Sarabhai. A violin recital by M. Narmada, Kathak by Richa Gupta and Mohiniyattom by Kalamandalam Kshemavathy will be held on February 9, according to a press release. Staff Reporter

THRISSUR: A reception committee, chaired by Mayor R. Bindu, was formed here on Tuesday for the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Government Engineering College. College principal K. V. Panchayat member stabbed

KOTTAYAM: Biji, Nedumkunnam grama panchayat member, who tried to interfere in an altercation between two persons, was stabbed on Tuesday. He has been hospitalised. Mr. Biji tried to pacify two bike passengers who were arguing over a parking space at a wayside spot at Champakkara, near Karukachal. The argument soon turned violent and Mr. Biji was stabbed. The police have arrested two persons in connection with the incident.
