New chief of SAC assumes charge

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Air Marshal Y.R. Rane assumed charge as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief at the Southern Air Command (SAC) headquarters here on Thursday. He was received at the Command headquarters building at Akkulam by Air Vice Marshal V.S. Kapani, senior Air Staff Officer, SAC. A guard of honour was given to him. He took the salute and reviewed the parade, which was commanded by Wing Commander Vinod Kumar. Later, the Air Marshal addressed the personnel of the command. Staff Reporter

Constable suspended on rape charge

NEDUMBASSERY: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable attached to the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbasserry was suspended on Thursday following allegations of rape. CISF Commandant K.C. Suresh Kumar suspended from service M. Santhosh, hailing from Maharashtra, after a Bengali woman, working at the airport construction site, alleged that she was raped by the accused.

Mr. Suresh Kumar has ordered a departmental inquiry and sought a report within a week. The accused was handed over to the Chengamanad police. A Correspondent

Plea against ordinance

THRISSUR: Cochin Devaswom Board president M.A. Krishnanunni has urged Governor R.L. Bhatia not to sign the Devaswom ordinance. At a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Krishnanunni said that non-Hindus would be involved in temple administration once the ordinance came into effect. "The move is undemocratic. The ordinance is being promulgated with an eye on a part of earnings from Hindu temples,'' he alleged. Staff Reporter
