KATTAPPANA: The first of the two tourist boats being constructed at Thekkady will be launched on November 30, followed by the second one before December 30. This is as per an assurance received by the governing body of the Periyar Tiger Reserve at Kumily, sources said. The construction of the two double-decker boats with a capacity to accommodate 80 persons is progressing in Thekkady. The cost of a boat is estimated at Rs. 33 lakh and as per the agreement signed on February 1, the work had to be completed within 90 days. Forest Minister Benoy Viswom had sought the speedy delivery of the two boats after E. S. Bijimol, MLA, informed the Minister about the delay in completing the work.
