THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district committee has decided to organise a hartal in Thiruvananthapuram district on Thursday in protest against the `police action' on party district leaders and the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists.

BJP State general secretary A.N. Radhakrishnan has protested against the `police action.' He said the BJYM workers who picketed the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation office in protest against the decision to take Asian Development Bank's loan were beaten up in police van after their arrest. Party district secretary Karamana Jayan and other leaders who peacefully protested against it were lathicharged. The police action was deliberate. The district council would meet and decide on the party's future course of action.

He said that West Bengal general secretary of the party Rahul Sinha would campaign here on the Nandigram issue. He would offer flowers at the Punnapra-Vayalar Memorial on Saturday.
