BJP State general secretary A.N. Radhakrishnan, who is also the party candidate in the Ernakulam Lok Sabha constituency, said it was the tacit understanding between the LDF and the UDF that prevented the BJP from opening an account in Assembly and Parliament elections. He was taking part in a meet-the-press programme organised by the Ernakulam Press Club.
“The electorate demands a change this time. So we are sure that the BJP will open an account this time,” he said. Both the LDF and UDF were failing the people. Even V.S. Achuthanandan compromised with the corrupt and criminal elements within his own party. Feeling sad about his sudden volte-face in the TP Chandrasekharan murder case,” said Mr. Radhakrishnan.
He claimed there was a conducive atmosphere for the BJP across the country and that would be reflected in the Ernakulam constituency too. “The Kochi Corporation and surrounding areas are now under the grip of extreme drinking water scarcity. Both the UDF and LDF have failed to address the depth of the problem,” he said.
Mr. Radhakrishnan also alleged that there was a concerted effort by vested interests to alienate land holdings of public sector enterprises in the district. “The real estate mafia is having an unholy nexus with the ruling and Opposition fronts. FACT and Kochi Port Trust are now incurring losses,” he said. The LNG terminal sanctioned by the Vajpayee government to Kochi is yet to get its fullest form, he said.
