The Nehru Yuva Kendra will organise a week-long programme to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda from January 12 to 19.
From 1985, the Nehru Yuva Kendra, under the aegis of Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, has been celebrating National Youth Day on January 12, which is Vivekananda Jayanthi.
The district-level function to mark the birth anniversary and the National Youth Week celebrations will be inaugurated by V. Chenthamarakshan, MLA, at Balu Memorial Auditorium in Kollengode at 9.30 a.m. on Saturday.
Former secretary of Kerala Kalamandalam Iyyankode Sreedharan will deliver the Swami Vivekananda commemoration speech on the occasion. A cultural procession would be taken out in Kollengode town as part of the celebrations, said K. Kunhammed, District Youth Coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra.
